Even more safety and convenience

Lorch Schweißtechnik has already been successful on the market for three years with its own, self-developed welding helmets. The current new edition of the APR 900 Plus helmet is characterized by an even larger field of vision and features such as soft-delay, spot-delay and auto-shade functions for even less tiring welding.

Improving the working environment is becoming increasingly important in the welding sector and the demand from companies for appropriate technology and equipment is growing. Lorch Schweißtechnik also focuses on continuously improving the working conditions of welders when developing and manufacturing its products. While the helmets developed by Lorch in 2022 were already characterized by their sophisticated design, good visibility and the highest possible safety standards for the welder, the next generation offers even more comfort for the tough everyday life of a welder and also easily meets the latest safety standards.

A key advantage of the new APR 900 PLUS helmet generation is the new anti-glare cassette, which features a particularly large viewing window, among other things. Enlarged to a viewing area of 82 x 100 millimetres, it now gives welders an even better view of their workpiece and surroundings. The fact that the cassette’s field of vision has been extended downwards makes it easier for the welder to keep his head upright during the welding process. This leads to an even better posture and prevents discomfort in the neck area.
The new anti-glare cassette is also certified to the highest quality level in accordance with the new ISO standard 16321-2, which has been mandatory for the certification of new products in the field of eye and face protection since November 2024. Thanks to innovative filter technology, the amount of blue light is significantly limited, thus reducing the risk of fatigue, headaches and long-term retinal damage.
Additional functions can now be activated via the practical control panel at the bottom of the cassette, where operating modes and protection levels, sensitivity and delay control can be easily set depending on the application. The new Soft Delay option ensures that the eye can slowly adapt to the brightness of the open cassette by gradually opening the cassette. This means that unpleasant glare – caused by the afterglow of the weld seam, for example – is a thing of the past. With Spot Delay – specially developed for tack welding – the change from light to dark is reduced. This makes work much more pleasant for the welder and reduces eye fatigue.

With the new auto-shade function, the protection level is continuously and automatically adjusted between bright and dark depending on the light intensity of the arc and is also tracked during welding. This ensures optimum visibility at all times for long and complex weld seams and large components, which reduces welding errors as well as expensive and inconvenient rework.

A ratchet adjustment knob ensures that the welding helmet fits securely and allows the head circumference to be easily adjusted. The helmet can also be individually adjusted to the shape of your head using the side sliders and two overhead straps. Extended and even more comfortable premium sweatbands on the forehead and back of the head make it even more comfortable to wear. A well thought-out four-point storage system on the visor side ensures that the helmet is stored safely. The helmet no longer rolls away and the slightly recessed visor is perfectly protected from scratches.
The new welding helmets are available in four different versions: Firstly, with the standard APR 900 Plus helmet and the APR 900 XF Plus flip helmet, whose divisible visor including anti-glare cassette is simply flipped upwards. The advantage of the flip-up version is that work such as grinding can still be carried out protected by a protective visor, but with better visibility.

In addition, both models can be combined with a fresh air system that protects the welder from inhaling welding fumes and toxic welding gases. Here, a battery-operated filter and blower unit (PAPR) – connected to the helmet via a flexible ventilation hose – ensures a fresh air supply directly into the welding helmet. To prevent unfiltered ambient air from entering via the throat and neck area, the helmets are equipped with a revised face seal with a collar made of soft fleece material, which seals the helmet from below and can be replaced quickly and without tools thanks to an industrial Velcro fastener.

“With our new welding helmet, we are making the welder’s work even more pleasant and safer. Thanks to the enlarged field of vision, certification in accordance with the latest protection standards and the numerous additional functions, we offer our customers a coherent overall concept without compromises and at a very attractive and affordable price,” says Maximilian Hipp, the responsible product manager at Lorch Schweißtechnik.
