Roemheld has launched the new, rail-guided RWS shuttle table for transporting heavy tools and molds. The innovation is available in three versions for loads of up to 15 t, 25 t or 40 t per tool. The system is electrically driven and equipped with two different push-pull systems for the safe and automatic transportation of tools to set up the presses. It can be used to change tools and molds on all types of vertical forming machines and injection molding machines, among others.

With the RWS, Roemheld is responding to the trend towards ever higher loads in tool and mold making. For example, car manufacturers integrate numerous individual parts into ever larger castings during megacasting in frame or body production. These are processed with heavier tools in larger presses and punches. Roemheld is meeting the new requirements and expanding its range of tool weights upwards.
The innovation is a product that Roemheld has launched on the market together with an East Westphalian transport and handling expert.

Safe transport system with minimal rolling resistance

The tool changing table is guided on flush-mounted round rails. Their rolling resistance is so low that loads of up to 5 tons can easily be moved manually by just one person. In addition, the special rail design enables precise trolley guidance and prevents dirt from being deposited and tripping hazards from forming on the floor.

Consoles that bridge the distance between the press table and the die change trolley are used for effortless die transfer. The push-pull system integrated into the RWS then moves the tools onto the press table via roller bars and then back down again. A safety mechanism ensures that the loads can only be moved when the RWS is firmly connected to the press or storage location.

The RWS is available as a single or tandem trolley and can be used flexibly for a wide range of production scenarios. For example, it can travel between a storage area, a pre-setting station and a single press. It can also shuttle between several storage locations, set-up stations and presses. Alternatively, it also enables several presses to be linked with just one shuttle table. This means that the presses are free during preparation and can produce until immediately before the die change.

Roemheld is thus fulfilling the growing customer requirements resulting from the trend towards interlinked presses and complete solutions. Different tool sizes can be easily changed with one system thanks to a standardized base plate. Semi-automatic and fully automatic tool changes are possible thanks to the control system integrated in the trolley and the precise positioning. Integration into the press control system and combination with quick die clamping systems are also available.

The actual changing process is also minimized in terms of time because the tool changing table is equipped with integrated lifting bars and a push-pull system. Another important point for operators: the wired hand-held remote control – optionally wireless – enables simple, safe and centralized control of the trolley in the semi-automatic system version.

Compared to free-moving transport systems, the rail-guided tool changing table has a number of advantages: high repeat accuracy and precision of up to ± 0.3 mm, lower energy and space requirements and higher availability. In addition, the installation of the floor-level round rails generally places low demands on the hall floor.

Coordinated complete program around the tool

The RWS rounds off Roemheld’s comprehensive, coordinated program for transporting and changing tools and moulds from the racking system to the press table. The set-up time optimizer thus meets customer requirements for complete systems for storing, transporting, changing and clamping forming tools.
