Cleaning method for capillary component geometries

Components with narrow capillary structures and angular channels represent a major challenge in parts cleaning – especially when high cleanliness requirements have to be met at increasing costs. For these applications, Mafac offers the new Mafac Vacuum Activated Purification (VAP), a process that cleans even deep boreholes with small cross-sections reliably and economically on an aqueous basis.

With Mafac Vacuum Activated Purification (VAP), we have succeeded in taking a further technological step towards being able to reach deep, capillary structures. In these geometries, which are critical for cleaning, it ensures improved media exchange and thus improved dirt removal,” explains Stefan Schaal, Technical Managing Director at Mafac.

For this purpose, the Mafac VAP works with specifically introduced, controlled alternating pressures, which intensify the cleaning effect of the spray or deluge cleaning. The cleaning chamber with the material to be cleaned is first evacuated and then flooded to a predefined level.

The cleaning medium penetrates into the blind holes and capillaries where it dissolves the dirt particles present. In the next step, a controlled pressure change is generated in the cleaning chamber. The regularly changing pressure conditions cause an exchange of media as well as cavity effects, through which the dirt is cleaned off effectively and gently.

Process for high quality cleaning requirements

Combined with Mafac’s patented process technology of counter-rotation or co-rotation of the basket pick-up and spray system, the new process achieves significantly improved particulate cleanliness for components that are capillary and complex in design. The process is very flexibly programmable and can be individually adapted to the respective requirements.

The Mafac Vacuum Activated Purification is suitable for almost all applications, but especially for medical technology, pharmaceuticals, optics, electrical engineering and the laser industry. Cleaning tasks on 3D printed workpieces can also be performed.
