The steel manufacturer UMB Steel s.r.l., Bucharest, has placed an order with SMS group for the supply of Europe’s first rolling mill with Continuous Mill Technology (CMT 700) for its site in Oțelu Roșu. The new bar and reinforcing steel rolling mill will be integrated into the existing complex and operated in a continuous endless process. According to SMS, this ensures minimal CO2 emissions and high production efficiency.
The CMT-700 plant enables an annual production of around 700,000 tons of steel bars, compact coils and wire rod. SMS supplies the plant from a single source and provides mechanical, electrical and automation systems for integration. The CMT technology enables uninterrupted production of long products from scrap by continuously feeding the continuous cast products from the steel mill to the rolling mill.
