Lantek, a leading global provider of software solutions for sheet metal production, and Zinser, a renowned German manufacturer of state-of-the-art sheet metal and tube cutting systems, have jointly developed an innovative solution that takes bevel cutting of pre-cut parts to a new level. This should enable customers to improve the precision and quality of their finishing work and increase their efficiency without interrupting production.

Previously, bevel cutting was carried out while the panel was being cut according to the nesting, which often led to collisions, inaccurate cuts or slower production. The industry is now moving to a more efficient approach: First, the parts are cut on a high-performance machine and then those that require bevels are transferred to a special bevel cutting machine.

New production approach, better control

This approach has been adopted by several European machine manufacturers. It avoids unnecessary downtime when cutting workpieces and enables better control of bevel cutting. The key to this approach is Zinser’s advanced part recognition system. The Zinser machines, equipped with the latest measuring technology, record the geometry of each part using various methods, including cameras, sensors and multi-point measurements. This enables them to determine the rotation matrix of the workpiece and cut the chamfers with maximum accuracy.

Advanced software for more precise cuts and faster production

The contribution of Lantek’s software to this development was crucial in optimizing bevel creation in uninterrupted production. Using a post-processor specially developed for the Zinser machines, Lantek’s software uses the input from Zinser’s sensor system, calculates the precise position and orientation of each part and automatically adjusts the cutting parameters.

“Our development helps customers to optimize workflows and reduce material waste without compromising the quality of bevel cutting. This technology enables more precise cuts and speeds up production. It also ensures smooth integration into the rest of the manufacturing process,” explains Francisco Pérez, Director of the OEM Channel at Lantek.

Greater efficiency with complex geometries

By integrating Lantek’s software into the Zinser machines, companies can make bevel cutting more efficient, especially for parts with complex geometries. The separation from the first cut leads to a smoother production flow and avoids unnecessary downtime.

The most important advantages at a glance:
– greater precision in bevel cutting thanks to precise detection of the position of each part
– less downtime as complex operations are performed by a special machine without interrupting primary production
– optimized workflow thanks to seamless integration of cutting and bevel cutting
– compatibility with various methods of part recognition, for example with cameras and sensors, which enables greater flexibility in production.

A further step towards intelligent automation

The solution is already being used successfully in various plants across Europe and has established itself as an innovative approach to optimizing bevel cutting in sheet metal production. The software design ensures seamless integration with various cutting and automation systems, allowing it to be used in Zinser industries such as metal fabrication, shipbuilding and heavy engineering. With its focus on precision, efficiency and reduced downtime, the technology represents an important step towards autonomous manufacturing, where the combination of advanced software and specialized machines optimizes production without compromising cutting quality.
