Meusburger organized a design engineers’ conference for professionals in mold and stamping die manufacturing in Hohenems in early July. About 80 participants took advantage of the event to exchange technical insights on tool development and manufacturing.
The first day of the event was dedicated to current developments in mold making, while the second focused on stamping die construction. Sebastian Denz from Stampack presented a digital workflow from strip layout to tool design. Michael Wenk, WKK Kaltbrunn, presented applications of modern progressive dies. Tony Britze from Oerlikon Balzers provided an overview of coatings for stamping and forming tools. Thomas Weber, Marposs Monitoring Solutions, demonstrated monitoring systems for progressive dies and presses.
Following a tour of the facility, Markus Peter of Hirschmann Automotive discussed potential applications of simulation, artificial intelligence, and acoustics in toolmaking. Finally, Thomas Enz of Meusburger presented developments in powder metallurgical steels and discussed criteria for material selection.
With its design engineers’ meeting, Meusburger provided a platform for exchange among experts from the fields of development, design, and manufacturing. The combination of technical presentations, plant tours, and one-on-one discussions offered up-to-date insights into the technology and processes involved in tool development.
