The next generation

Yaskawa launcht zur SPS offiziell die Automation-Plattform „iCube Control“: Ab sofort sind mit der iC9226-Reihe die ersten Controller aus dem iCube-Steuerungs-Portfolio verfügbar. © Yaskawa Europe GmbH

At SPS 2024 (November 12 to 14, 2024, Nuremberg Exhibition Center), Yaskawa presented itself as a solution provider and simultaneously launched the next generation of Sigma servo systems and the “iCube Control” automation platform. With this and new application-specific frequency inverters and integrated control solutions, Yaskawa will be demonstrating how machine builders can further reduce their time to market in economically challenging times.

A highlight at the Yaskawa stand (7-340) is the Sigma-X servo drive series. This further development of the Sigma portfolio once again offers maximum motion performance with further simplified handling. The new version of the servo system provides a lot of machine-relevant data – such as power reserves, temperature values and measured values for the moving load. The acceleration sensor now integrated in the servo motor also allows vibrations to be recorded, which enables continuous monitoring of the machine’s condition. All of these innovations help to keep the user informed of important parameters at all times, thereby increasing machine availability. The “iCube Control” automation platform from Yaskawa will also be officially launched at the trade fair: The first controllers from the iCube control portfolio are now available with the iC9226 series, namely the safety version as well as the Ethercat version. The Linux-based iC9226 controller works with the Profichip Triton industrial processor and can control 64 servo axes synchronously. The entire ecosystem can be programmed using the iCube Engineer software tool, which is based on the PLCnext platform from Phoenix. A new feature is that Ethercat can now be used to control not only servo drives and frequency inverters, but also Delta and Scara robots, Yaskawa’s own Motoman robots, customer-specific kinematics and other third-party devices.
The i³ Mechatronics concept for comprehensive automation, drive, control and robotics solutions will also be presented. For the machine builder and manufacturer, Yaskawa thus offers a complete portfolio from a single source for comprehensive, scalable and practical solutions. This is also demonstrated by an impressive live cell on the stand, which shows such a complete solution of all Yaskawa components and systems. In addition to the iCube control platform, the new Sigma-X will also be used there. In another live demo cell, new frequency inverters can be experienced as a preview: The FP605/HV600 model series is specially designed for use in pumps and fans. Last but not least, the latest cobots, Motoman industrial robots from Yaskawa, can be experienced live in action.
