Hydrogen – as an energy carrier, this chemical element is on everyone’s lips. The Research Association for Welding and Allied Processes (Forschungsvereinigung Schweißen und verwandte Verfahren e. V.) of DVS, in short: DVS Forschung, has also dealt with the topic with regard to its importance for joining technology and commissioned a study. The study provides an overview of current research needs.
What are the requirements for joining technology in connection with the production, storage, transport and use of hydrogen? Which specific materials and welding technologies are relevant? The study addresses these questions, as well as the impact of the new challenges on areas such as welding training and regulations. A separate chapter is also devoted to the question of the role of additive manufacturing.
The study was presented and discussed at the DVS Congress. Not only the great interest of the congress visitors, but also the discussion in the various DVS committees shows that there is a need for research. Together with cooperation partners, DVS Forschung will be increasingly involved in determining the significance and use of joining technology in the hydrogen business field.
The study “Joining Technology for the Hydrogen Economy – Materials, Welding Technologies, Perspectives” has been published as DVS Berichte, Volume: 373:
