The Pilz Group closed the past financial year 2023 with record sales of € 432.9 million. The automation company from Ostfildern grew worldwide and reinvests its profits. Growth opportunities for Pilz arise in particular from safety and security as an important building block for industrial transformation.
“The 2023 financial year was very successful. Pilz is consistently continuing its success story in 2023. We would like to thank all our employees for their great commitment,” sums up Susanne Kunschert, Managing Partner of Pilz GmbH & Co.
Growth primarily in Europe – future market India
The family-owned company increased its turnover by 7.3% to € 433 million, which marks the highest figure in the company’s 75-year history. Pilz achieved growth in important industrialized countries: in addition to Germany, the countries Italy, Korea, Switzerland, Austria, the UK and Turkey. The expert for safe automation recorded the highest percentage growth in India. The export share fell slightly by 1.1 percentage points to 75.4%. In terms of the range of products and solutions, Pilz achieved homogeneous growth in almost all areas. The areas of safe small controllers PNOZmulti, sensor technology and services developed particularly strongly.
The number of employees also increased: as at December 31, 2023, the company employed 2,476 people (+3.2%) in 42 subsidiaries worldwide. At the reporting date, 1,016 people were employed at the headquarters in Ostfildern.
Safety and security in transformation
“Digitalization and sustainability are the driving forces behind an industry in transition. Just as digitalization cannot be implemented without security, safety is just as important for sustainable business. An industry in transformation needs automation solutions that are safe and secure,” explains Thomas Pilz, Managing Partner of Pilz GmbH & Co.
“Safety and security are two sides of the same coin. Without security, safety for people, machines and the environment can no longer be guaranteed in the age of digitalization. And safety is Pilz’s corporate philosophy,” he adds.
The automation company is continuously expanding its range of products and services. In the field of industrial security, Pilz will be presenting its ISCS – Industrial Security Consulting Service this year. In this way, Pilz supports its customers in particular in meeting the requirements of the recently published Machinery Directive and the forthcoming EU Directive NIS 2: “It’s about protecting data and processes from unauthorized access and manipulation. Industrial security is a business-critical factor,” explains Thomas Pilz.
Confident about the future
“A weaker order intake is noticeable for Pilz. That’s why we are taking a cost-conscious approach in 2024. Our innovative products and services will carry us into the next year,” explains Susanne Kunschert.
