Fixing a problem on the machine before it affects production – this is possible with Trumpf machine diagnostics. Trumpf service experts monitor the condition of the machine remotely (condition monitoring).
“With the new machine diagnostics, we can record in-depth machine measurement data, for example motor currents or sensor signals, which were previously not measurable. To put it simply, we used to be able to measure the machine’s temperature, but now we get a complete blood count,” explains Martin Schober, lead developer of machine diagnostics at Trumpf. With digital service condition monitoring, the service technicians were already able to view the machine’s status data, such as the fill level of lubricating fluids. With the addition of machine diagnostics, Trumpf can analyze the condition of the machine even more reliably and, above all, remotely.
Looking deep into the machine
During machine diagnostics, the machine carries out measurements independently and regularly. Trumpf service experts check this data for special error patterns that indicate unusual machine behavior. To do this, they compare the data with defined indicators and limit values using automatic search algorithms. “If, for example, components on the axis of the machine wear out due to dirt or stress, this has a negative impact on the production result in the long term,” explains Trumpf Product Manager Stefanie Rieker. “With machine diagnostics, we are now in a position to avoid such cases because we can now record and, above all, interpret the relevant data. In the event of anomalies, we react immediately and contact the customer at
with appropriate recommendations for action,” Rieker continues.
Increased productivity with lower service costs
The advantage for customers: They know the status of their machine at all times and are informed in advance of any impending problems. In this way, they can check the settings or plan the replacement of a component in good time. In this way, users prevent consequential damage or machine breakdowns, avoid unforeseen service calls and reduce costs. At the same time, the continuous availability of the machine increases production productivity.
Fast problem solving – even without a service call
Over 80 percent of all service cases can be predicted and planned using digital condition monitoring. Thanks to the associated much more precise fault diagnosis, the service technician can also inform the customer remotely about possible courses of action. In most cases, the problem then ends without the need for a service call, which saves time and money. Trumpf has already reached the point where the customer can solve the problem independently in three out of four cases, for example through step-by-step instructions, so-called Technical Guides, or in remote contact in person with a Trumpf service technician, provided that the machine is connected online to the Trumpf network, for which the company attaches great importance to maximum information security and data protection. In this way, Trumpf ensures that there is no unwanted access to the data.
