With the TruMicro 9010, Trumpf has developed a new ultrashort pulse laser (USP laser) with 1 kilowatt. The very high power for a USP laser makes it particularly attractive for processing large areas.
“Unlike many other USP lasers, the TruMicro 9010 is not only suitable for processing small components. The high power of the laser enables our industrial customers to process large areas with high productivity. Even in roll-to-roll processes with high productivity requirements, users can cut out contours from flat materials with the TruMicro 9010,” explains Steffen Rübling, product manager at Trumpf responsible for the new USP laser. The high-tech company is presenting the TruMicro 9010 at the world’s leading trade fair Laser – World of Photonics in Munich.
Splitting the laser beam makes the TruMicro 9010 particularly productive
Users can split the laser beam of the TruMicro 9010 with special optics. This enables hundreds of fine holes to be drilled simultaneously. This is suitable for the production of filters, for example. “Many applications are only economically feasible thanks to the TruMicro 9010’s high output of one kilowatt,” explains Rübling. If the TruMicro 9010 is coupled to a polygon scanner, this rotating scanner distributes the pulses over the workpiece at a speed of up to one kilometer per second. In this setting, the TruMicro 9010 is particularly suitable for large-area applications. Not only structuring, but also the cleaning of surfaces is possible at this high speed.
High performance enables numerous applications in industry
The TruMicro 9010’s high individual pulse energy of 10 millijoules enables users from the electronics and steel industries, for example, to cover various industrial applications with just one laser. “This increases productivity, saves costs and reduces space consumption in production,” assures Rübling. For example, the TruMicro 9010 can cut contours, remove material and make markings in a single work step. This means that users do not need several laser sources or several processing stations, but can perform several work steps in one place with one laser source.
In addition to material processing, the laser parameters of the TruMicro 9010 are also suitable for future applications such as the generation of secondary radiation thanks to the high peak intensities.
