The premiere of the FlowIN system at Euroblech attracted enormous interest from industry leaders and underlines the transformative potential of this innovation. The system can sort parts at the same speed as it cuts them.
Marcin Ejma, CEO and founder of Eagle Lasers, sums up the significance of this development: “FlowIn is not just a further development – it is a completely new concept that seamlessly combines cutting and sorting.”
A paradigm shift in laser cutting
FlowIn’s innovation is based on a radical change in the approach to cutting that sets it apart from other systems. “We decided to solve sorting by changing the way we cut,” says Ejma. “Instead of focusing on cutting the parts, we cut the waste around them to free the parts from the surrounding skeleton. This makes sorting a simple pick-and-place task and eliminates the most difficult problem – separating parts and waste.” By replacing the pallet changer and traditional comb table with a brush table, the system avoids common problems such as slag build-up, scratches on the parts and time spent cleaning or replacing the combs. It also ensures that no parts are tipped over or welded to the combs, and eliminates the need for micro- or nanojoints. Unlike traditional laser cutting systems, FlowIn cuts and manages waste by dividing it into small sections and disposing of it in designated containers – all in the same cycle. This optimized process not only speeds up production, but also reduces unnecessary handling, allowing the system to operate at maximum efficiency without interruption. “Although the concept may seem simple, we are using existing technologies in new ways,” adds Ejma. “We started with the solution and worked backwards. This reverse approach helped us to develop a unique perspective and a new concept.”
Sorting without compromising on efficiency
Existing sorting solutions often affect productivity in several ways. Sorting systems often cannot keep up with cutting speeds, have limitations on material thickness and shape, or require larger gaps between parts, which hinders efficient nesting patterns. This affects machine efficiency and material utilization. “With standard machines, adding sorting functions slows down the process. Sorting in itself does not create value; the laser needs to keep cutting to be profitable,” explains Ejma. “FlowIn cuts and separates parts from waste at the same time, without compromising speed or efficiency.” Eagle’s new system delivers waste-free parts ready for manual or automated sorting, regardless of shape or thickness, and fully supports material efficiency-driven nesting patterns. FlowIn handles up to 40 kW of laser power and features a coil-cutting version called FlowInCo. It also integrates seamlessly with automation solutions such as Eagle’s FlowMaster or other advanced material handling systems and offers full compatibility with state-of-the-art production lines.
A game changer for the industry
FlowIn builds on Eagle’s decades-long tradition of innovation and efficiency. At its core, it remains an Eagle laser cutting machine, equipped with the company’s signature components such as the patented eVa cutting head, Eagle Eye defect detection technology, Eagle-manufactured linear motors and a carbon fiber crosshead. “Every advantage of our iNspire series is also included in FlowIn,” emphasizes Ejma. “From highly dynamic movements to unparalleled reliability, we have brought 18 years of experience to this new concept.” FlowIN’s adaptability makes it a game-changer for industries ranging from automotive to construction. Its ability to integrate with existing storage systems, unwinders and press brakes ensures that manufacturers can tailor the system to their specific requirements. As Eagle Lasers continues to push the boundaries of what is possible, FlowIn stands as a testament to the company’s commitment to innovation. With a thoughtful flow of material from one side to the other, without the back and forth motion of a pallet changer, and significantly higher material utilization compared to traditional laser machines, it ushers in a new era of production efficiency. “FlowIn is not just the future; it’s a solution for today,” concludes Ejma. “I firmly believe that systems that are not at least semi-autonomous will sooner or later become obsolete. FlowIn is the first concept of its kind to deliver on this promise and set a new standard for the industry.” Web: www.eaglelasers.com
