The Chinese Baowu Group has commissioned Georg to equip a fully automated roll store with a total of four Georg ultragrind roll grinding machines for the Wuhan cold rolling mill in Hubei province. In 2019, Georg had already supplied the Group with five roll grinding machines for the plant expansion at the Zhanjiang site in Guangdong province.
The order from Baosteel Wuhan Iron and Steel Co., Ltd. comprises three Georg ultragrind SG-2 grinding machines for work rolls and a Georg ultragrind 25 combination machine for back-up and work rolls.

All machines will operate in the automatic zone of the roll grinding shop, where all logistics and machining processes will take place without manual intervention. The systems are integrated into the existing roll store management system and controlled from a central control room. Accordingly, Georg equips the machines with the Georg Smartcontrol machine control system, which is designed for fully automatic operation. It has already proven its high productivity with the Baowu Group’s first order at the Zhanjiang plant. With user-friendly and efficient operation, it forms the interface between man and machine. In addition, innovative testing systems guarantee the optimum quality of the processed rollers.
Once the automatic system has been set up, only a few operators are needed to carry out all the work involved in regrinding the rollers.
