Dr. Kurt Schmalz, managing partner of J. Schmalz GmbH, was awarded the prestigious Rudolf Diesel Medal on Thursday evening. It convinced the expert jury in the category “Most sustainable innovation achievement”. The event was held in the halls of early supporter Rudolf Diesel, at the MAN Museum in Augsburg, as part of a gala dinner.

“I am incredibly happy and proud,” says Dr. Kurt Schmalz. “This award is a confirmation of our innovation work and an honor for the entire team. Therefore, I would like to dedicate this medal to all Schmalz employees worldwide.” At Schmalz, efficient and resource-saving management has always been one of the company’s basic principles. In the process, the global market leader from Glatten develops innovative products that support its customers on the path to climate neutrality.

“The creative restlessness that was in me and the whole company has been rewarded,” says Dr. Kurt Schmalz, for whom sustainability was already a significant issue in the 1980s, long before it became a global megatrend. “The Rudolf Diesel Medal is the highest honor par excellence for innovation. Accordingly, I am very grateful to receive this award.”

The Rudolf Diesel Medal, Europe’s oldest innovation prize, has been awarded since 1953 in memory of the innovator Rudolf Diesel for economically successful, entrepreneurial innovation achievements. The award honors entrepreneurial personalities and companies that have demonstrated their inventive spirit on the one hand and their ability to successfully implement ideas in an entrepreneurial manner on the other. The German Institute for Invention (Deutsches Institut für Erfindungswesen e.V.) has been the sponsoring association of the Rudolf Diesel Medal since 1982. The winners are selected by the Rudolf Diesel Board of Trustees, which consists of more than fifty technology directors from world market-leading, medium-sized technology companies.
