Visible seams twice as fast

Picture-perfect seams at maximum speed: With the new MicorTwin welding process, Lorch Schweisstechnik offers the possibility of welding demanding visible seams, which today are usually still carried out using the time-consuming TIG process, much more quickly and easily with MIG-MAG.

In the past, the TIG process was used to achieve particularly beautiful, evenly shingled seams on aluminium, stainless steel (CrNi) and thin- to medium-walled steel applications. The challenge: The TIG process in its pure form is time-consuming and cannot compete with the productivity of the MIG-MAG process.

According to Lorch, the new MicorTwin welding process not only achieves a 100 percent higher welding speed, but MicorTwin also offers – as a comparison of the weld seams shows – a seam appearance that is in no way inferior to the TIG process. The seam appearance can be adapted to individual requirements via the convenient dynamic setting and seam scaling can be selected from fine to coarse scaling. Especially components such as frames (bicycles, vehicles), frames (tables, chairs, beds) and many others, where an excellent visible seam is important, can be produced easily.

Frank Knuf, responsible development welder at Lorch: “I wouldn’t have thought that such outstanding close-up optics at this speed would be possible with a MIG-MAG process.”

Another advantage of MicorTwin: the easy handling. The welding programs are optimised for the entire range of applications in such a way that welding can be started directly without time-consuming adjustment work on the welding parameters. In this way, perfect close-up optics can be achieved without losing the good controllability of the MIG-MAG process. According to Lorch, the solution offers additional perspectives, especially in times of increasing competitive pressure and costs.

Personnel deployment facilitated

Prerequisite for the MicorTwin upgrade is a MicorMIG system with activated pulse process. The MicorTwin is therefore available for all power classes (300, 350, 400, 500 amps) of Lorch’s MicorMIG Pulse series. For new systems, the innovative welding process is already included in the FullProcess package at the same price. For existing MicorMIG pulse systems (from delivery year 2018), an upgrade with MicorTwin is easily possible via NFC card.

“With the new welding process, we have succeeded in converting many applications that previously could only achieve the necessary close-up optics with the TIG process to the significantly more efficient MIG-MAG process,” says Maximilian Hipp, the product manager responsible for the MicorTwin at Lorch Schweißtechnik. In addition to the excellent close-up optics and the enormous speed advantage, the process also offers the opportunity to plan personnel deployment in a more targeted manner. Hipp: “Due to the easy handling of the MicorTwin, almost every company can produce quality visible seams at high productivity. Highly specialized TIG welders are relieved and MIG-MAG welders get a new process that is simple but enables highest quality.”

In addition, some companies no longer need to maintain duplicate equipment. Especially when joining thin and medium-thick sheets from 1 to 8 millimeters, the MicorTwin can achieve beautiful, evenly shingled seams, Lorch promises.
