Eurometal, the European association of steel traders, processors and service providers, has launched an appeal with national associations and steel manufacturers to protect the European steel and metal industry. To date, the initiative has collected more than 300 signatures from companies in Europe and 35 national steel associations, according to the European association.

The signatories warn that the European steel and metals industry is facing severe pressures, including rising import volumes of processed products, global trade distortions and protectionist measures by third countries, as well as high energy and regulatory costs in Europe.

These developments jeopardized the entire European value chain. Without immediate and decisive action, the European Union is threatened by an accelerated deindustrialization process with far-reaching economic, social and strategic consequences. The initiative calls on the EU Member States and the European Commission to act quickly and decisively to safeguard the European steel and metal value chain.
