For the first time, a complete IO-Link safety system is available for safe communication in the field: The system solution from Pilz includes masters, sensors, field devices and suitable accessories. The first devices in the Pilz portfolio to be equipped with IO-Link safety functions include the safety light curtains PSENopt II advanced IOLS, the control unit PITgatebox IOLS and the IO-Link Safety Master PDP67 IOLS. The complete package from the expert for safe automation simplifies the integration of IO-Link safety technology into machines and systems.
The manufacturer-independent, standardized IO-Link communication system can now be used for functional safety with all its advantages: With IO-Link Safety, it is now available for functional safety. The safe and standardized point-to-point communication enables the integration of safety sensors and actuators into any existing fieldbus system, independent of higher-level systems. The IO-Link Safety communication protocol is standardized worldwide in IEC 61139-2 and, according to Pilz, offers maximum safety up to PL e according to EN ISO 13849-1 (or SIL 3 according to IEC 61508/62061). The universal solution therefore ensures greater flexibility, as users only need one fieldbus for different safety requirements.
Master via the secure connection
As an interface to the safety controller, the IO-Link safety master PDP67 IOLS enables bidirectional communication right down to field level. It is possible to connect safety sensors with IO-Link Safety to PDP IOLS – in addition to IO-Link Safety devices, standard IO-Link sensors and actuators as well as classic safety sensors, for example with OSSD outputs, can also be connected. Sensors such as the PSENopt advanced IOLS safety light grid can be switched to OSSD technology.
Simple commissioning and device replacement
The IO-Link safety sensors from Pilz provide important status information and offer more possibilities in the field of intelligent diagnostics. The devices can be identified and parameterized independently. This simplifies the replacement of components and reduces repair-related downtimes of machines and systems. In addition, fewer different device types are required, which reduces the complexity of procurement and thus frees up space in the warehouse. As a result, costs can be reduced and productivity increased.
Handling data and diagnostics efficiently
End-to-end communication with every sensor and actuator enables intelligent data evaluation: IO-Link safety communication runs via unshielded cables and uses industry-standard connectors. This saves time and effort when replacing devices and increases availability.
Intelligent IO-Link safety devices also offer diagnostic functions such as the self-diagnosis function, which enables predictive repair and maintenance concepts. For example, an individual beam evaluation provides information on the signal strength of the PSENopt advanced IOLS safety light grids for predictive maintenance. This increases the productivity of the system or machine.
With a view to the Internet of Things, the IO-Link safety package from Pilz supports IIOT-networked plant and machinery simply and manufacturer-independently down to sensor and field level, opening up new possibilities for Industry 4.0.
