Manufacturers of CNC laser and plasma cutting systems are aiming for significantly reduced development times and faster time-to-market. The MTX CNC system from Bosch Rexroth supports this, for example with functions for simple engineering. The combination with the compact and modular CtrlX Drive drive system from the CtrlX Automation modular automation system also enables space-saving dimensions and high scalability. In interaction with the CtrlX Core control platform, the solution supports networking and communication in Industry 4.0.

“Machines for beam cutting must work quickly, precisely and reliably. At the same time, manufacturers have to bring their machines to market in ever shorter times in order to remain competitive. Our MTX CNC system provides support here. Among other things, it has a ready-made project template and powerful functions for high-performance laser cutting, such as height control, fly-cut and leap-frog. This reduces engineering time, costs, and the effort required for any debugging,” explains Peter Berens, Head of Business Development Manufacturing Business Unit Automation & Electrification Solutions at Bosch Rexroth.

Through the use of technology features such as Leap-Frog or Frog-Jump, the high-performance CNC and corresponding drive functions, users also benefit: A reference sheet can now be cut 10 to 15 percent faster than before. The combination of powerful multi-core processors and decentralized intelligent drive technology makes the MTX the most powerful CNC on the market, claims Bosch Rexroth. This enables very high cutting speeds and accelerations with maximum precision.

The solution benefits typical beam cutting applications such as 2D laser cutting, plasma cutting or waterjet cutting. With Industry 4.0 communication features based on the OPC UA standard, the system is also ready for the digital factory.

Double power by combining solutions

“Our solutions are characterized by openness in all directions. Thus, the MTX CNC system can be ideally combined with products from the CtrlX Automation portfolio. For example, the MTX is often used in conjunction with the world’s most compact modular drive system, CtrlX Drive. This offers many advantages. For example, the automation structure and installation space can be minimized and energy-saving requirements can be implemented,” explains Peter Berens.
The bundle enables faster engineering with the IndraWorks engineering tool and offers functions for virtual commissioning and digital twins for simulation.

Other solutions from the CtrlX automation portfolio also open up new scope and savings opportunities for beam cutting. For example, the CtrlX Core compact controller offers numerous advantages in terms of connectivity and networking in the sense of Industry 4.0, which, among other functions, ensures future-proofing.
