Even the smallest defects such as defective tool or tooling elements, scrap jams or cracks in the components can cause considerable costs and impair production efficiency. Such damage would lead to production downtime and additional maintenance costs.  <\/h3>\n<p>To protect the tools and keep production running smoothly, Smart Press Shop GmbH &amp; Co. KG &#8211; a joint venture between Porsche AG and Andritz Schuler based in Halle (Saale) &#8211; relies on the Metris Visual Die Protection (VDP) monitoring system.<\/p>\n<p>VDP uses advanced camera technologies and image processing algorithms to continuously monitor tool status in real time. The system detects foreign objects and scrap jams in the tools as well as cracks in components at an early stage, stops the system immediately if necessary and thus prevents potential damage before it affects the production process. <\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Visual Die Protection has enabled us to proactively protect our tools and keep availability at a consistently high level,&#8221; confirms Hendrik Rothe, Managing Director of the Smart Press Shop. &#8220;The other options for monitoring processes in the press and tools are extremely promising and are already showing results.&#8221; <\/p>\n<p>The implementation process at the Smart Press Shop went quickly and smoothly. The employees received training on how to use the system optimally and are continuing to develop it together with the experts from Schuler. By analyzing the image data recorded across the entire production batch, weak points in the tools are identified and targeted improvements made.
