Coke oven gas is a by-product of the production of coke from coal in coking plants. The project is the first of its kind in India and represents a significant milestone on the road to more sustainable steel production.<\/p>\n<p>Paul Wurth&#8217;s COG injection technology is a development to reduce coke consumption and thus the CO2 &#8220;footprint&#8221; of blast furnace operation. By utilizing the chemical potential of coke oven gas (COG), the new process can save around 0.65 kilograms of coke per kilogram of COG injected, which significantly reduces operating costs and the CO2 footprint at the same time. Paul Wurth&#8217;s advanced system automation supports the smooth and safe operation of the plant by implementing systems for fully automatic flushing, flow monitoring and lance cooling for each injection line.<\/p>\n<p>The project is scheduled to be completed within 25 months so that the new plant can go into operation in the first quarter of 2026.<br \/>\nTata Steel and SMS Group can look back on many years of cooperation, during which SMS Group has positioned itself both as a full-range supplier of blast furnace technology and as a pioneer of customized solutions for reducing CO2 emissions.<\/p>\n<p>India has set itself the goal of reducing its CO2 emissions to net zero by 2070. The implementation of this innovative technology is not only a milestone for India, but also a significant step towards achieving this goal.
