One hundred percent of the electricity used comes from renewable sources such as wind and solar power and is supplied via a recognized guarantee of origin plan. The raw material is then transported to the ArcelorMittal Tubular Products plant in Legutio, 70 kilometers away, where the steel is used to produce the XCarb tubes.<\/p>\n<p>With just 648 kg CO2e\/t (e stands for equivalent), the steel pipes are the first on the European market with CO2 emissions up to 75 percent lower than conventionally produced steel pipes, according to the manufacturer. An Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) to calculate the total CO2 impact of the low carbon steel pipes provides customers with full data transparency. EPDs are publicly available documents that are based on a life cycle assessment method and have been independently certified by a third party.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;By using recycled and renewably produced XCarb steel tubes, customers, especially in the construction, agriculture and energy sectors, can reduce the global carbon footprint of their projects, products and end products,&#8221; explains Adrian Alecu, Head of Business Development at ArcelorMittal Europe &#8211; Tubular Products, and adds: &#8220;In this way, we support companies in meeting the requirements of the Paris Climate Agreement and the European Green Deal and in making their contribution to climate protection.&#8221; The steel pipes can be used for building frames and sprinkler systems, solar systems, wind turbines, scaffolding and machinery, among other things.<\/p>\n<p>ArcelorMittal Stahlhandel is the first customer in Germany to receive such profile tubes. &#8220;Hollow sections from initial production were put into stock in mid-August and are now available for purchase in our branches. After the XCarb beams, which were stored centrally for all branches at the Essen site, these are now the second product group that we can offer our customers from stock,&#8221; says Oliver Menrath, Chief Marketing Officer of ArcelorMittal Stahlhandel. &#8220;We are looking forward to taking another step towards a CO2-neutral steel industry together with ArcelorMittal Tubular Products,&#8221; adds Olver Menrath. &#8220;Many companies are talking about soon being able to offer CO2-reduced steel or steel pipes.
